Young writers see the light

Dave Eggers is on an international mission to help children learn to read and write. It's a quest that began in the Mission District in San Francisco but it has its origins in his childhood home in Chicago. In 2002, he helped set up San Francisco's 826 Valencia, a free literacy project to help students aged from six to 18 with their homework in the largely Latino neighbourhood. Teaching children to love books and write their own stories was always a passion of his mother's, a public school teacher....
